Katosi Women Development Trust (KWDT) implemented this project to strengthen water governance in Mpunge, Mpata, Nakisunga, and Ntenjeru Sub-counties of Mukono District. The initiative focused on empowering communities especially women to actively participate in water governance through training, advocacy, and collaboration with local governments.
Overall Objective
To improve water governance through enhanced community collaboration.
Specific Objectives
Build women’s capacity in good governance through targeted trainings.
Strengthen community participation in local decision-making by supporting advocacy committees and enabling their engagement in sub-county meetings.
Promote dialogue and collaboration between communities and local government through structured community forums.
Enhance the sustainability of water sources by training water user committees and facilitating peer learning through exchange visits.
Methodology
Signing Memoranda of Understanding between KWDT and the four sub-counties to establish a formal working relationship.
Facilitating exchange and learning visits between water user committees managing local government–constructed facilities and those managing KWDT-constructed facilities.
Organizing community dialogues in 13 communities to identify WASH governance gaps and engage duty-bearers in addressing them.
Expected Results
Stronger networking, collaboration, and clearer role awareness between local governments and communities.
Improved performance and sustainability of water user committees managing both government and KWDT water sources.
Increased functionality of water sources, driven by well-trained and active water user committees.
