The Network for Water and Sanitation (NETWAS) Uganda proudly contributed to the WASH SDG Programme as a key member of a consortium led by Simavi, alongside partners including Amref Flying Doctors, Aidenvironment/RAIN, Hivos/RUAF, IRC, Practica, AFSRT, HEWASA, JESE, and WASEU. Implemented from July 2017 to September 2022 in Agago District, Northern Uganda, this initiative advanced Sustainable Development Goal 6 to ensure access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) for all.
In Agago, NETWAS and its partners focused on three strategic objectives: increasing demand for improved WASH facilities and practices, enhancing the quality and accessibility of WASH services through a functional market, and strengthening WASH governance to create an enabling environment. Our efforts included community-driven behavior change initiatives, innovative water management solutions like artificial wetlands for climate resilience, and capacity-building to empower local stakeholders.
Key achievements include improved access to safe drinking water, enhanced sanitation facilities, and better hygiene practices, directly impacting thousands in Agago. NETWAS leveraged its expertise in knowledge management and advocacy, fostering learning platforms and sharing lessons from the Rwizi Catchment to improve integrated water resource management (IWRM) in Agago.
This programme reflects NETWAS Uganda’s commitment to sustainable, inclusive, and climate-resilient WASH solutions, transforming lives and building healthier communities in Northern Uganda.
